Floating markets, paddle steamers and mangrove exploration in the Bangladesh Delta

Day 1 Night boat to Barisal

Today we’ll take the boat in the evening to Barisal and we’ll stay on board to sleep. It’s the perfect way to get accustomed to the local way and blend in with the local population.

Day 2 Barisal

In the morning you will board a boat to explore the backwaters, a labyrinth of canals, rivers, streams. There are many villages, floating markets and the whole area is full of life. It is somewhat similar to the Kerala backwaters in South India, but without tourists! In the afternoon we will return to Barisal and stay overnight.

Day 3  Kuakata Beach

Today we’ll go to Kuakata Beach, which is in the extreme south of the delta. A little gem known among people from Dhaka (although that doesn’t say much), but completely undiscovered by tourists. You’ll have the rest of the day for yourself.

Day 4  Mangrove

Today we’ll go in a private boat inside of the mangrove of Tengragiri, which is part of the Sundarbans. We’ll explore the area and you’ll be able to spot many different exotic birds and maybe mammals such as deers, otters and monkeys. In the afternoon we’ll travel back to Barisal, where we’ll stay in a hotel.

Day 5  Dhaka

Today we’ll take the boat back to Dhaka.
