Tanguar Haor Houseboat Experience

Two women are on a traditional wooden boat on a river. One sits on the bow, the other stands further back near the boat's cabin. Both wear colorful clothing.

Tanguar Haor is a unique wetland ecosystem located in northeastern Bangladesh. It is a vast area of marshy wetland with a collection of water bodies, including lakes, ponds, canals, and swamps. The Haor provides a habitat for a wide range of flora and fauna and serves as a vital source of livelihood for the local community. The area is also known for its natural beauty and attracts many tourists each year.

Tanguar Haor was declared a Ramsar site in 2000, which means it is recognized as a wetland of international importance. However, the area is facing various environmental challenges, including overfishing, water pollution, and climate change, which threaten the ecosystem and the livelihoods of the local community. Conservation efforts are ongoing to protect the Tanguar Haor and its unique biodiversity.
